The National Assembly referred on Thursday the matter of “amassing illegitimate assets” by Supreme Court’s Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi to the Public Accounts Committee.

Speaking in the House, senior PML-N leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq while addressing deputy NA speaker Zahid Akram Durrani, said that it is the responsibility of the NA to investigate the allegations and “clear” the name of the honourable judge.

Sadiq further said that a lot of fingers were being pointed out at the honorable judges, adding that it was very “hurtful” to see “because all judges are honorable for us”. While referring to Justice Naqvi, the PML-N leader said that because of “one judge, all other judges are being defamed”.

“I would request you to refer this matter to the Public Accounts Committee with the direction to complete the inquiry within 10-15 days,” Sadiq said while addressing the deputy NA speaker.

He further said that a special audit should be conducted by the Federal Board of Revenue and a joint team should be constituted with the Auditor General of Pakistan.

The members of the National Assembly today urged the government to withdraw recently increased exorbitant Sui gas meter rent charges and conduct fresh census in Karachi to obviate the sense of deprivation in the residents of the largest city of the country.
