Pakistan cricket team’s interim coach Abdul Rehman will also serve as the batting coach of the side during the Afghanistan series.

He takes over the role from Mohammad Yousuf who will reportedly not accompany the team during their trip to Sharjah due to personal reasons. Yousuf has already informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of his decision.

In his absence, Pakistan’s coach for the tour, Abdul Rehman, will pull the double duty of coaching the team’s batting lineup as well.

Many in cricketing circles had predicted that Yousuf will be the one leading the team against Afghanistan for the three-match series before PCB settled on Abdul Rehman’s name.

Pakistan is still looking to fill the role on a permanent basis with Mickey Arthur being the likely candidate. If his desire for a selected role is approved by PCB, Abdul Rehman may occupy his newfound position for a while.

The Green Shirts may not find their tour as comfortable as the opposition suggests after Afghanistan decided to name a strong lineup for the series while PCB has included several newer faces in the team with an eye on the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The three-game series is likely to serve as an auction for both Shadab and Abdul Rehman in their roles.

First of the three games will be played on Friday, March 24th.
