PM Shehbaz Sharif to embark on Qatar visit tomorrow to attend UN conference on LDCs

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to fly to Doha on 5-6 March to attend the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at the invitation of the Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

Foreign Office confirmed the premier’s visit to Middle Eastern nation where he will attend the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5). The conference aimed for amplifying sustainable development in developing nations, helping them progress on the road to prosperity.

At the moot, international leaders will draw international support in favor of the Least Developing countries and will exchange views to renew ties between development partners.

Islamabad remained among prominent members of the United Nations platforms for sustainable development around the world. Last year, the South Asian nation supported the efforts of the LDC Chair and Qatar in securing the adoption of the Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries by consensus and its endorsement by the UN General Assembly.

The participation of Pakistan’s Prime Minister signifies support for developing nations in their quest for social progress and economic prosperity.

At the sidelines of the UN conference, PM Sharif will hold meetings with participating leaders and heads of delegation.

Islamabad supported global partnerships based on effective means of implementation, including within the framework of South-South Cooperation, to pursue the UN 2030 Development Agenda and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Foreign Office said in a statement.
