People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti was today detained by Indian police during a protest in Delhi against the ongoing eviction drive launched by the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti accompanied by scores of party workers planned to march from Railway Bhawan to the Indian Parliament, where she wanted to inform opposition parties about the J&K admin’s bulldozer policy. However, police detained her along with the party workers at Vijay Chowk.
Mufti and the party workers were seen holding placards reading ‘STOP BULLYING. STOP BULLDOZING‘ and were heard raising slogans like: “Jis Kashmir ko khoon se seencha, woh Kashmir humara hai; hooliganism will not work; stop vandalising…!”
Mehbooba Mufti addressing a press conference in the Indian capital said the BJP is using its brute majority to weaponise everything and bulldoze the Constitution.
“Palestine is still better. At least people talk. Kashmir is becoming worse than Afghanistan, the way bulldozers are being used to demolish the homes of people. What is the purpose of demolishing small houses of people,” she said.
Mehbooba Mufti appealed to Indian opposition leaders not to be a mute spectator to the atrocities being committed by the BJP. “Parties including the Congress, Left, DMK, TMC, Samajwadi Party and others should raise their voices and not remain silent to the atrocities being committed on common people in Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.—KMS
