Breast cancer awareness activities held at UO

A seminar and walk for breast cancer awareness were arranged at the University of Okara (UO) where the oncologists from the District Headquarter Hospital Okara including Dr Hina Akram and Dr Sidra Javed imparted necessary information to the female teachers and students regarding cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Focal person of the activities, Dr Nasrin Akhtar, endorsed the idea of communication to raise awareness not only to the students but their families and society at large. She highlighted the importance of health literacy for women. Program organizer, Dr Nida, highlighted the importance of breast cancer awareness for all.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, lauded the event organizers’ efforts and advised them to take this program to the community as well.

Riaz, a cancer survivor, also attended the event shared her experience with the participants.

Pink ribbons and awareness literature were distributed among 2000 female faculty and students.

According to the data of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, an organization working for breast cancer awareness, every 9th woman in Pakistan is at high risk of breast cancer and this disease claims 40,000 lives annually.
