Pakistan Cricket Board denies the news in media regarding Naseem Shah in an attempt to give the impression that fast bowler’s name was withdrawn from Pakistan U-19 cricket team for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup due to overage issue.
The Pakistan Cricket Board, as usual, confirmed the age of all players of the Pakistan U-19 Cricket Team and the process was completed in November before the selection of the Pakistan U-19 team on December 6.
Naseem Shah’s name was included in the preliminary squad for the World U-19 cricket team that meets the eligibility age of the ICC. The age of players for this event was set 1st September 2000.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has stated in its declaration on December 31st that Naseem Shah’s name has been withdrawn from the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup at the request of the management of the Pakistan Senior Cricket Team and the reason is simply “cricket”.
The PCB expresses disappointment that attempts have been made to tarnish the reputation of the young cricketer, whose future is bright.—Agencies
