International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of World Bank on Tuesday signed an investment agreement with Alliance Healthcare Private Limited (AHL) to bolster quality healthcare facilities in the region.
A ceremony was organized in this connection in Northwest Teaching Hospital on Tuesday where an agreement was signed between Alliance Healthcare Private Limited (AHL) and International Finance Corporation (IFC). According to the agreement IFC will invest two billion Pakistani Rupees in the company for bringing significant infrastructural and management changes in the company that will lead improving corporate governance in the AHL structure.
Mr. Taimur Khan Jhagra, Health and Finance Minster Khyber Pakhtunkhwa graced the event as chief guest and shed light on the importance and critical role of private sectors in healthcare system.
He said the private sector’s interest in health has been increased with the launching of health card project. Thanks to the health card, today the rich and the poor are treated in the same hospital. The health card scheme has negated the class system in healthcare.
The International Finance Commission started reinvesting in Pakhtunkhwa after twenty years. The KP government has also signed an agreement with IFC under public private partnership that will improve the health care system in the province.
The event was also addressed by Mr. Zeeshan Sheikh, Country Representative, IFC for Pakistan and Afghanistan. He underscored the need of quality healthcare facilities in developing countries like Pakistan. Pakistan is an important country for us and we have five decades experience with the country and have been investing billions of dollars in various sectors. We are very glade to invest and being a partner with AHL that will bring quality health services for the people of the region.
Dr. Tariq Khan Hashim, Chairman AHL welcomed the guests and shed light on significant contribution of AHL in health sector. Alliance Healthcare Private Limited (AHL) came into being in 2005 through the efforts of a group of healthcare professionals with a view to establish top quality healthcare and research facilities along with health education. Now there is state of art hospital of the company having 600 beds capacity and medical college and health institute for supportive and allied health programs.
The ceremony was also attended by Senior government officials, students and doctors of the Northwest hospital and stakeholders of the company.
