In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has strongly condemned the continued house detention of its chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The Anjuman Auqaf in a statement issued in Srinagar said that even today, the Mirwaiz could not go to the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar to offer Friday prayers due to his continued house detention. It deplored that the Kashmir Valley’s top-most religious leader is not being allowed to perform his religious duties.

It said due to the continued detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the ‘mimbar and mihrab’ of the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which is the centre of spirituality and reformation for Muslims in the Valley, are silent.

The Anjuman Auqaf said a large number of people from the nook and corner of the occupied territory who come to the grand mosque continue to face severe disappointment owing to the absence of the Mirwaiz. Their sentiments are being hurt and they consider the continued house arrest of their beloved leader as a sheer interference in the religious affairs, it added.—KMS
