A student from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir was critically injured at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh when he was attacked by a fellow student during a cricket match.
During a friendly match the Kashmiri student, Sajid Hussain, was hit in the head with a bat by his classmate Shobhit Singh, after a minor altercation. They both are pursuing B Tech at the College of Engineering and Technology and live in the Nadeem Tareen Hall hostel.
Sajid Hussain was quickly rushed to a hospital in an unconscious state. He continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The attacker, who is a resident of Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested.
As the news of the incident spread on the campus, a large group of students gathered at the Shatabdi Gate and demanded rustication of Shobhit Singh immediately. It was only after that Singh was arrested by the police to prevent escalation of tension.—KMS
