Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman submitted a resolution to the Secretary of the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday condemning the request of the Sindh Government to delay the local government election in Karachi.

Sher Zaman in the resolution makes it absolutely clear that a delay for the third time in holding local body elections would be unacceptable for the residents of Karachi and those who understand the value of an elected local government.

Plus, the resolution describes the lame excuse of police personnel from other districts would be unavailable for poll security in Karachi by the Sindh Government and Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab as deplorable.

And if this is true, then why has the Sindh Government agreed to send police to Islamabad at the request of the Federal Interior Minister? If lack of police personnel is the issue, the resolution recommends the  deployment of Sindh Rangers for Election Day duties.

Sher Zaman feels that the continuous delays in holding local government polls reflect the anti-democratic mindset of the ruling party of Sindh, as it shows it doesn’t deem the devolution of power to the lowest level of government to be important.  Because of this, the people are suffering from a lack of delivery of essential municipal services.

The resolution concludes by stating that the lack of elected local governments in the province of Sindh is a severe violation of the Constitution and it deprives people of the basic right to choose their local representatives.
