CHAIRMAN Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has, once again, demanded immediate elections, warning that his party will not stay patient for too long.
During his televised address on Thursday, he held the coalition government responsible for the present state of economy and called for political stability for the sake of the economy.
It seems that the former Prime Minister is unmoved by the grave situation created by the devastating floods and incessant rains that have played havoc with the lives of a significant segment of the society and the national economy as he is steadfast in his demand for immediate elections.
Election is a political issue and there have been demands by right-minded people that it should be sorted out through talks and not through threats and warnings as the PTI is doing.
Imran Khan has again threatened that his party could give a call to the public if his demand for early elections was not responded to by the coalition government.
Immediate election is an impossibility given economic challenges and flood situation that demand constant attention of the federal and provincial governments as well as other institutions.
It has to be kept in mind that the politics of confrontation did not benefit any in the past and would not work in future as well.
Agitation, long marches, sit-in and lockdown of cities would only add to the misery of the people who are suffering due to record price-hike and uncertainties of all sorts.
It would also be unfair to put the blame of the present state of economy on the present Government as it is the cumulative result of wrong and inconsistent policies pursued by the PTI Government during its three and a half-year rule.
If the PTI could not effectively manage the economy in three and a half year, it is a big question mark whether it would perform miracles if it returned to power after the general election.
