APSUP-Pakistan and PAMI, in collaboration with Superior Foundation, have established the ‘Mission Esaar Flood Relief Fund’. Eminent educationist and Chancellor Preston University, Dr Abdul Basit is heading the Federal Chapter of APSUP-PAKISTAN as President.
In an interview Dr Basit said the recent catastrophic floods have brought devastation of enormous magnitude to the country, parallels of which have never been seen in the country ever before.
Highlighting the role of APSUP, he said, Mission Esaar is a major step that the private universities have taken with the Superior Foundation taking the lead in devising and implementing a comprehensive plan in this regard.
Dr Basit said the ferocity with which this natural calamity has struck Pakistan has left the entire nation in utter shock and awe. He further said that in order to deal with this gargantuan humanitarian issue effectively, a very well-planned endeavour will have to be made.
The first priority, he said, should be to provide immediate relief to the devastated people, meet their basic needs like food, clothing, shelter and medicines; Second, focus on their rehabilitation; Third, rebuild the totally destroyed infrastructure. Last but not the least, Dr Basit emphasised that this initial effort should be backed by concrete long-term planning to effectively deal with calamities of such extremity in the future.
