Dressed in their traditional attires, the members of the Sikh community especially youth put on green turbans in Hassanabdal on Sunday as part of their celebrations of the 75th Independence Day.
Fazil Mudassir Assistant Commissioner was chief guest on this occasion. Flag hoisting and cake cutting ceremony was also held at Sikh temple Gurdwara Punja Sahib which was attended by a large number of the members of the Sikh community.
Local community leader Sardar Jaggi Singh said their forefathers had rendered great sacrifices for independence, and it was the result of these sacrifices that they were living in an independent country.
“Pakistan is our country and we will express love for the motherland at its Independence Day”, he added. Gullbeer Singh –Garathi (caretaker) at Sikh temple has said that Sikh community is safe here and we are getting equal opportunities while Pakistan is our homeland and we are committed with our motherland.
Our land gave us the identity in the world as Pakistani. Another Sikh community leader Gurpal Singh said that feelings of patriotism are running through our veins, adding that the Sikh community.
He added that “we are enjoying the equal status and opportunities here, the Independence Day would be celebrated with the traditional zeal and zest in the whole country by Sikh community.”
Speaking on this occasion, Fazil Mudassir Assistant Commissioner has said that he participation of minorities in the celebrations of Independence Day will convey the message of tolerance and interfaith acceptance.
