Swati elected to examine “Islamabad Capital Territory Trust (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Senator Azam Khan Swati unanimously elected Chairman of the Senate Select Committee to examine and formulate a report on “Islamabad Capital Territory Trust (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Islamabad; 3rd August 2022: To discuss and formulate a report on the “ Islamabad Capital Territory Trust (Amendment) Bill, 2020, moved by Senator Mushtaq Ahmad, a meeting of the Senate Select Committee was held here at the Parliament House on Wednesday to elect its Chairperson. Senator Faisal Saleem put forth the name of Senator Azam Khan Swati as the Chairman of the Select Committee which was endorsed by Senator Fawzia Arshad.

Senator Azam Khan Swati, on being elected as the Chairman of the Select Committee, thanked the members and called for their support to finalize work on the amendment bill, adding that the insight from the committee members will be highly appreciated and welcomed. He remarked that he would fulfil the confidence placed in him. The newly elected chairman of the select committee called for working together to carry out the responsibility entrusted to them.

The members of the committee congratulated Senator Azam Khan Swati on being elected as the Chairman of the Select Committee and assured him of their full backing and cooperation.

The Islamabad Capital Territory Trust (Amendment) Bill 2020, was tabled by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and it was sent to the Senate Standing Committee on Interior for consideration and report. As Senator Mushtaq Ahmed/Mover of the Bill was not satisfied with the report on the bill, a select committee was formed under the rules. The select committee is bound to compile a report on the bill within 60 days,

Senators Azam Khan Swati, Shahadat Awan, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Jam Mehtab Hussain, Fawzia Arshad, Faisal Saleem, Sardar Muhammad Shafique Tareen, Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, Nawabzada Umar and Mushtaq Ahmed attended the meeting.
