FIA on Tuesday recorded the statement of Secretary Punjab Assembly, Muhammad Khan Bhatti in Rs24 billion money laundering case against Moonis Elahi, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and son of PA Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and others, including the secretary himself. It is worth mentioning here that Mr. Bhatti has already secured interim bail from a banking court in the case until tomorrow (June 22, 2022). Six days ago, on June 15, 2022, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had registered a money laundering case against Moonis and others.

It was learned that the FIA Corporate Crime Circle registered the case against Moonis, who had also served as a federal minister under the PTI government, on the report of sugar inquiry commission.

The FIA sources said that ‘sufficient evidence’ was collected against Moonis after which the agency decided to formally start an investigation against him.

Meanwhile, members of the Punjab Assembly (MPAs), belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), met with Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday and discussed with him the prevailing political and economic situation of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Pervaiz said it was unfortunate that the present government, instead of providing relief to the people, was burdening them with taxes. “Their ‘competence’ has ruined the country’s economy,” he said satirically.

He further said it was sad that inflation was rising with each passing day under the imported government. “Sometimes, they increase the petrol price and sometimes gas and electricity prices,” he said, adding that the situation had come to such a pass that today the people could not even purchase kitchen items.
