The Punjab Finance Department has recommended the closure of the PTI’s “Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program” for low-income people.

The PTI government had launched the Ehsaas Program across the country under which food items are being subsidized for lower classes.

Under the Program, citizens are given a 30% subsidy on the purchase of groceries from the registered shops. A web portal was also created for registration under this Program.

Soon after changing the government, the Punjab Finance Department made recommendations to close the Program of the PTI government in Punjab.

According to official documents, the Punjab Finance Department has informed the government that the federal government has received Rs9 billion from Punjab under this Program.

The department has also recommended to the Punjab government that if the federal government has not used such an amount then it should be withdrawn.

The finance department officials said that the Chief Minister’s public utility package has also started in Punjab so running two programs at once is creating difficulties for the province.

Government sources said that the Punjab Chief Minister has been briefed on the closure of this program but he has not yet given approval to it.
