SUCH is the political culture in our country that second and third tier of leaders in political parties do not dare to challenge policies of their top leadership rather they spend most of their time in flattery and toeing the line of top leadership in order to come close to them for the fulfilment of their vested interests.
But there are a few leaders like former Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain who never stops short of admitting the flaws of his own party.
Talking to his twitter handler the other day, he conceded that his party also made mistakes, leading the situation to this point.
It is not the first time that Fawad Chaudhry has made such a statement rather whilst in power he also used to raise voice against the performance of his government.
In our view such leaders are the precious asset of any party and must be respected. Within parties there should be a system of self-accountability as this will really help them to move forward whilst learning from the failures and mistakes of the past.
Though in his recent remarks, Fawad Chaudhry did not further elaborate on PTI’s mistakes, yet it is quite obvious that had the party taken other political forces along in the Parliament House, it would not have been out of power today.
Inflexibility on the part of top leadership brought the party to this stage. Anyway, it is still time for the PTI to do the course correction and pursue the path that serves the interest of the people of this country.
Though many eyebrows were raised when the PTI Chairman announced the abrupt end of his long march, yet we understand that it was a very wise decision as the situation was such that the matters could get worse.
The country is passing through a difficult phase, especially on the economic front. We, therefore, will suggest all the parties to rise above their petty political interests and work collectively to steer the country out of this crisis.
Engagement is the only way forward to develop trust and take the country towards political stability.
