INDIA used to take much pride of being the largest democracy and secular state but under Modi regime, the country has completely turned into a Hindu extremist state where there is no place for the followers of other religions especially the bigotry against Muslims has become a norm there.
The regrettable part is that such steps on the part of Modi government are also being endorsed by its other institutions be it Parliament or the courts. One saw its manifestation yet again on Wednesday when the Indian Parliament passed a contentious bill that seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from some other countries. This will let the Indian government grant citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants who entered India from three neighbouring countries before 2015 but not if they are Muslims. Indeed this legislation is contrary to all the international norms and human rights which speak volume of the Hindutva mindset of Modi. Pushed by the majoritarian agenda, it has revealed to the world the RSS-BJP exclusivist mentality and the true extent of their animus against the Muslims. The legislation is also in complete contravention of various bilateral agreements between Pakistan and India particularly the one concerning security and rights of minorities in the respective countries. This is one of the series of attacks that has been made against Muslims over the last five or six years. In Assam also, the Muslims are being isolated and being deprived of the Indian citizenship. How the Muslims were targeted and lynched for eating cow meat or involved in their sale and purchase is also not a secret. Pakistan has repeatedly voiced its concerns over these incidents in India, it is also time for the outside world especially the Muslim countries and the champions of human rights to rise above their economic and political expediencies and raise their voice over the way Muslims and other minorities are being treated in India. Modi is playing with fire and he risks pushing the already volatile region into chaos and unrest. He is the same butcher whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of Muslims in Gujarat. Modi needs to be stopped and for this Pakistan, with the support of other Muslim countries, should file a lawsuit against him and his accomplices in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for their crimes against humanity and genocide.
