AAIB preparing final report of PIA plane crash

On 22nd May 2020, Pakistan International Airlines misfortunate flight (PK8303) from Lahore- Karachi suffered an air crash close to Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. 97 out of 99 souls on board lost their valuable lives. However, 02 passengers survived miraculously. In addition, there was 01 fatality on ground. Immense trauma caused by the unfortunate air crash was felt by national and international community alike.

According to the issued press release, despite restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic and related challenges, by now the team has collected all required evidences and is presently working on draft final report. In accordance with the ICAO requirements, second interim statement has been issued by AAIB Pakistan and is available publically on Aviation Division Website.

Air crash investigation was ordered immediately by Federal Government of Pakistan with constitution of air crash accident investigation team from AAIB Pakistan. After a month of sad accident, preliminary investigation report was released publically. Following the roadmap established through preliminary investigation, AAIB Investigation team has been undertaking extensive search for relevant evidence in collaboration with foreign stakeholders to probe the root cause of the accident, following the ICAO protocols.

Minister for Aviation has extended deep condolences and sympathies with the grieved families and friends of victims of ill-fated air crash, and has assured that the final report will be made publically available at the earliest.
