The country is sweltering in extreme heat as the metrological office has issued a heatwave forecast striking most parts of the country from Wednesday.According to the weather report, in many areas of Sindh, the temperature would rise to 50°C. Karachi will experience intense heat from May 13 to May 14.
The medical practitioners have advised people not to come out in the sun unnecessarily especially during daytime.
It is expected that mercury level would reach 49°C in Sibbi while temperature will remain between 46°C to 48°C in Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana and Sukkur.
Whereas, in Punjab areas of Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan, the mercury level is expected to touch 45°C today. Pakistan has been in the grip of a series of intense and prolonged heatwaves since March.
Nawabshah in Sindh recorded a temperature of 47.5°C on 27 April, and temperatures rose to 49°C at Jacobabad on 30 April, the highest temperature recorded this year in the northern hemisphere.The frequency of heatwaves has been growing since 2016.
The met office predicted that hot and dry weather would persist across the country on Wednesday. However, dust storm coupled with rain and thunderstorm could hit Islamabad in the evening or night.
