Tuberculosis is a potentially fatal but completely curable disease. Pakistan has the 5th highest disease burden of TB in the world and loses around 44 thousand lives to it every year.
March 24 is celebrated as the World TB Day internationally to raise awareness about this deadly malady. In this context Rawalpindi Community Awareness Program conducted an awareness campaign in the government hospitals of Rawalpindi on the other day in which students of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) participated enthusiastically.
In addition a TB seminar was held at RMU on 26th March. District TB control officer, Dr Syed M. Raza briefed the students about the tireless efforts to control TB.Free diagnosis and treatment of TB is now available at private hospitals and clinics too in addition to the government institutes.
He urged the students to always stay at high alert for TB and expressed the hope to decrease TB by 90% by 2023 Provincial TB Program Officer Dr Zubair focused on the importance of prevention for eradication of TB HOD infectious diseases Dr Mujeeb ur Rehman and Head Department of Medical Education Dr Omaima lauded the efforts of RCAP for TB awarenessAnum Tariq final year MBBS Student, operational manager TB awareness drive also focused on TB awareness.
