Formalities completed, Sumaira to return home by next week: Irfan Siddiqui

“Sumaira and I are grateful to you for raising your voice in the Senate”, Indian lawyer Suhana Biswa

Indian authorities have completed all formalities for the release of Pakistani woman Sumaira Rehman, who was languishing in a detention center in Bangalore, India. She is expected to arrive in Pakistan next week with her four-year-old daughter Sana Fatima.

This was disclosed by PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui while talking to a local news agency. On the other hand, Suhana Biswa Patna, an Indian woman lawyer who was working for the release and repatriation of Pakistani woman Sumaira from a detention center of Banglore, has thanked Senator Irfan Siddiqui for raising voice for Sumaira’s release and repatriation.

“Allow me to thank you for raising the matter in the Senate. We would not have seen this day without your help”. A leading Indian lawyer fighting for human rights, especially for jailed women, told Senator Irfan Siddiqui in a telephonic message. Suhana Biswa further said that “Thank you sir, for all your help.

Both Sumaira and I are very grateful”. Senator Irfan Siddiqui also appreciated Suhana’s efforts and thanked her. Talking to a News Agency, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that he was in touch with Indian lawyer, Pakistan Foreign Office and Asma Jahangir Legal Aid Cell and was getting information on daily basis.

He said that after the issuance of NOC from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has also completed all the formalities and is working with the Pakistani authorities to finalize the program for Sumaira’s return to Pakistan. It is likely that Sumaira will return home next week with her daughter Sana Fatima. Replying to a question, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that Sumaira’s mother had passed away but her father and brother are present.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that the state has to play an important role with regard to Sumaira and her daughter. He said that after the Sumaira’s return he would table a formal resolution in the Senate on the negligence and dereliction of duty of the concerned Pakistani officials.
