The World Bank announced more than $1 billion in aid to Afghanistan from its frozen assets.
The announcement came in a statement released by the World Bank. It said that the aid would be given in the shape of grants aimed to support the delivery of essential basic services to protect vulnerable Afghans, help preserve human capital and key economic and social services, and reduce the need for humanitarian assistance in the future.

Moreover, the statement also said that the aid will go to UN agencies and international NGOs while remaining “outside the control” of the country’s Taliban rulers.
