Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman has slated the Sindh government and Karachi Police for non-implementation of Karachi Safe City Project.

A day back, Karachi’s Police Chief Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon admitted that Police still needed to install around 50,000 cameras in Karachi as part of the Safe City Project.  Sher Zaman wants to inquire from the Karachi Police Chief about the reasons for the slow installation of CCTV cameras throughout Karachi.  Also, why did the Sindh Police never maintain the previously installed 2,300 CCTV cameras?  This is an outrage for all residents of Karachi.

Furthermore, about the general lawlessness occurring in Karachi, he lashed at Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and Sindh government for their aloofness towards this serious issue for the last 14 years.  CM acknowledged that the Karachi Police force was short of 19,000 policemen, including 15,000 constables and the PTI Parliamentary Leader demands PPP Co-Chair Bilawal Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh to state the reasons for ignoring recruitment of Karachi Police for 14 straight years.

Zaman also criticized Chief Minister Sindh for holding the Home Ministry besides the Finance Ministry and the time has come for the province to have a full-time Home Minister. He said PTI demands the immediate implementation of the Karachi Safe City Project and that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah steps down as Home Minister and appoints a full-time one. Also, PTI demands that Karachi Police recruitment must be done from the local residents of Karachi, he added.
