In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has urged the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to take cognizance of grave situation prevailing in the territory where people are being killed, maimed, tortured, arrested and humiliated with impunity by Indian troops.

The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the prevailing situation in the occupied territory as extremely critical where extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions and molestation of women by the troops have become a routine matter.

He expressed serious concern over the upsurge in so-called cordon and search operations by the troops in IIOJK. He said the people of the territory have been left at the mercy of more than one million occupation troops, enjoying unbridled powers under draconian laws to kill, arrest, torture and humiliate anyone with impunity. Rule of law is a distant dream and human rights have lost their meaning in IIOJK, he maintained.

The APHC spokesman reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to take the ongoing resistance movement to its logical conclusion despite the Indian suppression and repression. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are demanding their inalienable right to self-determination which has been guaranteed by the United Nations Security Council resolutions so there is no other option before them as a substitute to this inalienable right, he added.

The spokesman said in view of the grim situation in IIOJK, it has become highly imperative to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

APHC leader, Dr Musaib, in a statement in Srinagar deplored that Indian forces’ personnel were inflicting mental and sexual violence on women in IIOJK, adding that incidents of violence and rape against the women were part of the Indian military strategy. He said 31 years have passed since the Kunanposhpora mass rape occurred but the victims are still awaiting justice.

Meanwhile, APHC-AJK leader, Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, in a statement in Islamabad expressed serious concern over the worst human rights violations by Indian troops in IIOJK. He said that the Indian forces’ personnel had unleashed a reign of terror in the territory and killing innocent youth in the so-called cordon and search operations. He urged the world community to take cognizance of the Indian state terrorism in IIOJK and play role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and Kashmiris’ aspirations.—KMS
