In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi-led Hindutva regime in pursuit of its policy to harass Kashmiri journalists summoned prominent media person Gowhar Gilani in the territory.

The court in South Kashmir’s Shopian district summoned journalist Gowhar Nazir Gilani to ensure personal appearance before it today in a fake case against him.

In a notice, the Executive Magistrate of Shopian stated that the court received a report regarding the incident dated 01-02-2022 from concerned police authorities, wherein a police person Shabbir Ahmad Wagay, was injured in a firing in Amshipora Shopian and was shifted to District Hospital Shopian in a critical condition.

“Immediately after the incident you have disseminated information on social media that would have endangered the life of the injured individual and other persons besides circulation of your information have raised serious security and breach of peace concerns,” the notice issued reads.

The court has also included several other fake cases against him under black law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Police Station Sadder, Srinagar.

It is worth mentioning here that Modi’s India is using different intimidating tactics including registration of fake cases to harass journalists in IIOJK. Kashmiri journalists are being booked under draconian laws, abducted, threatened and tortured simply for speaking the truth and doing their job in the occupied territory.

Since 5 August 2019, India has particularly intensified its crackdown on Kashmiri journalists.—KMS
