Boat tragedy

I want to bring to the authorities’ attention the tragedy that took place at Khanpur Dam, in which a picnic boat consisting of teachers and students capsized and resulted in the death of a teacher. According to the Assistant Commissioner Khanpur, the service providers failed to provide safety equipment to tourists along with a lack of precautionary measures which caused the incident.

Incidents like this occurred in the past as well, but as usual, lack of safety measures resulted in the loss of many innocent lives. This incident could have been avoided if only proper safety equipment was provided and precautionary measures were taken. The authorities should take immediate action against those responsible. Furthermore, there should be a proper system to ensure the safety of tourists to avert any incidents like this in the future.

First transgender doctor

Sarah Gul, 23, made history by becoming first ever transgender doctor in Pakistan. She is on the spotlight these days. She has recently managed to obtain a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Jinnah Medical and Dental College. University of Karachi has conferred her degree. We are proud to have Pakistan’s first transgender doctor, who, in future, would work for the welfare of her community.

It is worth mentioning here that in 2020, Nisha Rao became the first transgender law graduate in Pakistan. Similarly, Marvia Malik started her career as a newscaster in 2018. She also belongs to gender-diverse community. Aisha Mughal had been declared one of the most successful transgender persons in the world for the year 2020, who made history by representing Pakistan at the United Nations as part of an official delegation.

Unfortunately, this gender-diverse community faces extreme discrimination, a lot of troubles and even violence due to which it cannot progress freely. Transgenders are neglected by the government as well as local society. Even their families do not accept them. Negative stereotypes are on the rise about this marginalised community. In these circumstances, if the individuals like Sarah Gul, Marvia Malik, Aisha Mughal and Nisha Rao break the records, we must appreciate them cordially and try to accept their efforts with heart and soul. In addition to this, we should modify our behaviour about transgender people. They are also human beings. We should respect all.

Women education

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to explain about the significance of education for women because in the present era it can lead our country to the way of a developed nation, leading to a better status for them.

Now in this present situation, it is important and you cannot regret that every man or woman must be literate to achieve success either in the field of economy, in social life and in establishment. Whereas, in Pakistan, there is a massive gap between male and female literacy rates. Low literacy rate among females has a negative impact on the overall growth and development of the society and eventually the nation.

It is time to realize that education for women is as significant as for men. It is not just because of her fundamental right, but also she is responsible for the holistic development of her family and the society. An educated woman can make her family’s life better; she can also play a leadership role in the society. She is more passionate or can create much better family planning than ordinary uneducated women. A well-educated woman can also raise up her voice for the rights of women because her decisions will be morally stronger.

Just like, if mother and father both are well-educated, then their children will also have good morals. But despite all this, women in our rural areas are illiterate, because the the successive government did not provide facilities and awareness for them. The concerned authorities should take this issue seriously and make proper mechanisms for education to count our nation as an educationally developed nation.

Favouritism or recommendation culture

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to explain about the growing culture of Sifarish (recommendation) in Pakistan. I want to draw the attention of the concerned people because this is one of the emerging problems in this era that make our country weak from every aspect as educationally, socially and economically.

Using illegitimate method to hire a candidate on the basis of favouritism in government sector make our system corrupt because of this recommendation system people lose faith in merit, and they also regret that, why they worked so hard to get the post? The employment in public sector is advertised in the newspapers but the selection is done by Sifarish. Owing to this culture, the highly qualified or able people sit idle at home in the hope of employment but this Sifarish system only allows unqualified people to get ahead.

This recommendation culture has had a devastating effect on students and society. Also this culture weakens the literacy rate in the country. This system lowers the morale of the students. In this system mostly uneducated and inexperienced candidates are appointed at prestigious positions.

These unethically appointed people not just damage the one sector but they also start damaging other sectors by appointing their own candidates with their influence. There should be a proper check and balance while hiring a candidate.
