Administration takes action against violators in-volved in hill cutting

In violation of section 144 of Criminal procedure code imposed ban on cutting and mining of hills along all main roads of the District, local admini-stration has taken action against the violators in-volved in hill cutting here in Dhamtore and sent two people behind bar.

Assistant Commissioner Abbot-tabad Muhammad Hassaan Ahsan raided against the illegal hill cutting and crushing plants near Dham-tore on Abbottabad – Murree road along with Po-lice, environment and Mineral department.

He took action against the involved persons and arrested both the accused. Later Assistant Commissioner Hassaan Ahsan told the journalists that they have taken action against the illegal hill cutting which has already ban in the district. He told that no one would be allowed to pollute the environment which has badly damaged the beauty of the city.

He said that district admini-stration imposed ban a year back when noticed that hill cutting & mining were done at various are s particularly along the main road s, which has jeop-ardizing effects on environment and ecosystem beside devastation on natural beauty.

He further claimed that land degradation has always entails a serious disruption of a healthy balance between five key ecosystem function which include food production, fibre provision, microclimate regu-lation water retention and carbon storage.

Its im-pacts can be far-reaching, including loss of soil fertility, destruction of species habitat and biodiver-sity and also has serious knock-on effects for hu-mans, such as malnutrition, disease, forced migra-tion and cultural damage adding that environmental consequences of land degradation include water quality deterioration, biodiversity decline and deg-radation of ecosystem services.
