PESHAWAR – Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has filed his nomination papers for a vacant Senate seat of Khyber Pakthunkhwa as the PTI-led government aims to reappoint him as the finance minister.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra and KP Minister for Higher Education and Information Kamran Khan Bangash submitted the nomination papers at Peshawar office of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

PPP candidate Muhammad Saeed, ANP’s Dr Shaukat Jamal Amirzada, and JUI-F’s Zahir Shah have also filed their nomination papers to contest the election for the Senate seat vacated by PTI senator Ayub Afridi earlier this month.

The election for the seat is set to be held on December 20.

Following his resignation, Afridi in a video messagesaid that he had resigned from the post on the nod of PM Imran Khan, adding that he had not objection in this regard as the Senate seat was given him by the premier.

Last month, the federal government appointed Shaukat Tarin as PM’s adviser on finance as a stopgap arrangement after his constitutional term as an unelected member of the federal cabinet ended.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tarin constitutionally requires to be elected as a Member of Parliament for to be reappointed as the federal minister for finance.
