Sindh collects Rs40,959m tax by October 2021

A meeting of Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department was held under the chairmanship of Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department & Parliamentary Affairs & Food.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Raja Khurram Shehzad Umar, Director Generals Iqbal Ahmed Leghari and Aurangzeb Akbar Panhwar and other officers.Details of tax collection from July 2021 to October 2021 were presented in the meeting.

The meeting was informed that a total tax of Rs 40,958.930 million was collected till October of the current financial year whereas Rs 28,335.300 million was collected in the same period of last financial year.

Briefing the meeting, it was informed that Rs 3530.545 million in motor vehicle tax Rs34031.672 million was collected for infrastructure Cess while Rs 312.187 and Rs 65.129 million were collected for professional tax and cotton fee respectively. According to the details, Rs 1,127.792 million was collected in property tax and Rs 7.728 million in entertainment duty.

Addressing the meeting, the provincial minister said that the overall situation of tax collection was satisfactory, however there was a need to launch a road checking campaign for recovery of motor vehicle tax and expedite action against property tax defaulters.

He also requested the professional tax defaulters to deposit their taxes as soon as possible. Chawla also directed the officers to perform their duties diligently and honestly and take legal action against tax defaulters and in this regard no lethargic attitude would be tolerated.
