Two more dengue patient lost the battle to the viral infection here in Lahore during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from dengue to 25 in the City during the current season so far, the Punjab health department informed on Sunday.
According to Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Imran Sikander Baloch, as many as 452 new dengue cases were reported in the City during the past 24 house and the total number of cases in the City has cross the mark of 10,000 so far in the current season. He informed there are 1,489 patients under treatment in various City hospitals in critical condition.
The secretary pointed out that most of the dengue cases have been reported from Defence, Gulberg, Iqbal Town, and Samanabad town of the provincial metropolis.
Imran Sikander also directed the Punjab Health Department officials to intensify anti-dengue activities and surveillance dengue larva.
He underlined that the government alone cannot deal with the situation, saying that the public cooperation of great importance and is vital for success of the government measures taken for elimination of dengue.
He asked people to avoid waste disposal in open place and do not let accumulate water in the houses or on rooftops to check breed of dengue mosquitoes, adding that people should also adopt preventive measures to avoid the disease. “
There is no vaccine of dengue and prevention and better diet are the only remedy to avoid the disease while urging people to cooperate with the government.
The situation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is not any different. The total number of cases in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has reached 2,600 and 1,100, respectively.
This year, 12 people in the capital city succumbed to the dengue virus. Sindh, too, has seen an uptick in cases. More than 69 people reported the fever Friday.
According to reports, Karachi has been one of the most affected cities in the province. Over 1,500 cases have been reported in Sindh this October. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four people have succumbed to the dengue virus this year. The province has recorded a total of 6,291 cases this year.
Dengue is a potentially lethal disease spread by mosquito bites. Dengue virus spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito.
According to the World Health Organization, these are the symptoms of dengue that last between two to seven days including: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands and rash.
There is no specific treatment for dengue fever. Fever reducers and pain killers can be taken to control the symptoms of muscle ache and pain, and fever.
