QUETTA – Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was elected unopposed as the new chief minister of Balochistan on Friday.

Bizenjo secured 39 votes in 64-member provincial assembly as members of three political parties and an independent MPA did not take part in the polling.

Thirty-eight votes were cast by members of BAP lawmakers and its allies in the provincial government and one by a member from the opposition.

BAP had nominated Bizenjo as chief minister and Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali for post of speaker, which fell vacant after the former had resigned.

Talking to the media after submitting nomination papers on Thursday, BAP spokesperson Abdul Rehman Khetran said that Bizenjo as new chief minister will be within the reach of common citizen.

Meanwhile, Bizenjo vowed to play role for the uplift of the province and thanked outgoing chief minister for giving resignation in order to save the party.

Alyani, in a statement, said that the BAP “stands together and firm on all consensus decisions”.

“Our differences were before my resignation, but not after that. The party has no groupings and we all stand as one […] my good wishes for Bizenjo and Jamali,” he said.
