The Counter Terrorism Authority have arrested three extortionist of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan who had demanded extortion money from businessmen of federal capital besides threating police of reprisal attacks.
Addressing a press conference here, SSP CTD Malik Jamil Zafar said that the detainees had demanded millions of rupees extortion money from businessmen and educational institutions through telephone calls and letters.
He said that the extortionists belonging to TTP demanded extortion money from businessmen and educational institutions through letters posted from Swat post office and threatening telephone calls made from Afghanistan.
The senior CTD official said that one of the arrested militants identified as Sher Bakht is a former TTP commander from Swat.
He said that the militants were supported by their accomplices in Afghanistan.
Malik Jamil Zafar said that they demanded a total of Rs300 million in ten letters written to different people, the spokesperson said.
The militants had also written a letter to the CTD, threatening its officers with reprisal attacks if they acted against the extortionists, he added.
