As many as 463 new cases of Dengue fever were reported across Punjab province during the past 24 hours.
With the detection of the new cases, the total number of Dengue cases in Punjab province has reached 10,258 so far in the current season, informed Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch on Monday and added that majority of the reported Dengue cases – 7,005, have been reported in Lahore.
The provincial health secretary said that 365 Dengue fever cases were reported in Lahore on Sunday, saying that the viral disease also claimed two lives in Punjab taking the death toll to 32 from the Dengue virus in the current season so far. He pointed out that both patients died from the virus belonged to Lahore.
Punjab has so far reported 10,258 dengue hemorrhagic fever cases in the current season, health secretary said.
Most cases of the disease, 7,005, have been reported in Lahore, secretary health said.
He said that presently 2,200 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the province, adding that most patients of the mosquito-borne disease, 1,270, have been undergoing medical treatment in Lahore’s hospitals.
Imran Sikandar Baloch said that the administration has stepped up arrangements and efforts to counter the ongoing trend of upsurge in dengue fever in the province, adding that Dengue eradication activities have been scaled up, especially in Lahore and soon there will be a decline in cases of Dengue virus in the province.
Meanwhile, a video of two ostriches running down a busy Lahore street has gone viral on social media.
In a video, the ostriches can be seen darting across Lahore’s canal road with nearby cars and motorcycle riders steering away from the bird.
A few bikes can be seen recording videos and slowing down or changing their directions so as to avoid hitting the ostrich.
Video clips of the birds running through the busy road of Lahore city have been widely shared on the internet.
Later, one of the ostriches died when a man tried to catch a bird from his neck running on Lahore’s canal road.
Sources said the search for the other bird is underway. Earlier in January video of an ostrich running across a road in Karachi had gone viral on the internet.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Prosecution Ch Zaheeruddin said that the Lahore High Court Chief Justice has issued instructions to all the district and session judges as well as commissions and deputy commissioners to allocate space in the existing judicial complexes at district headquarter for the establishment of offices of judicial authority officers and in case of unavailability of space to provide them offices near the existing judicial complexes at district headquarter for smooth functioning of the prosecutors.
