Big powers and their favoured countries are misusing the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as a political tool to coerce countries like Pakistan to toe their line.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said putting Pakistan on FATF’s grey list is definitely more political than anything else and urged the FATF to stop showing prejudice against Pakistan to maintain its credibility.

The watchdog has itself recognized that Pakistan has complied with 26 out of 27 demands but the western powers are using FATF to pressurize Islamabad to follow their agenda, it added.

It said, FATF continues to place Pakistan on grey list despite Islamabad having met almost all condition of the Paris-based watchdog but it has shown favoritism towards India by continuing to place Pakistan on its grey list.

The report deplored that India had long been using the global forums for its petty political designs against Pakistan and the global watchdogs were looking the other way when it come to countries like India.

It said, the FATF is losing its credibility by ignoring India’s money laundering activities as it has been sponsoring/financing terrorism in Pakistan but FATF is taking no action against New Delhi.

Arrest of Kulbhushan Jadhav from Balochistan and his confession that he carried out terrorist activities in Pakistan proves India’s terror financing, it maintained.

The report said, there is need to challenge FATF’s credibility vis-à-vis its dealing with ‘favoured’ countries like India.

It said, Islamabad has already provided the world irrefutable evidence of Indian terrorism in Pakistan and instead of keeping Pakistan on grey list, India deserves to be blacklisted by the FATF.—INP
