Korangi Creek Industrial Park is a state-of-the-art industrial zone designed to attract FDI & DDI in to the country. It is one of the zones which has been granted SEZ Status by the government of Pakistan. Currently 20 companies are operating with 25 companies in the pipeline. Currently there are two export-oriented companies manufacturing in this zone, Mehran Commercial Enterprises a tier one Auto Parts interior manufacturer and Mediplas Innovations (Private) Limited manufacturing of Plastic Packaging and Medical device components using Injection and extrusion blow molding techniques and many more SME who will become exporters in futures if government will support them.
MCE is sending its first order to Ireland this month which is a breath of relief as the current conditions of the industry are in a down word trend for the past 1 year. The order placed with MCE is for interior tractor trims used in foreign tractors. Mashood Khan the export director of the company stated that times in the local industry are tough, volumes are drastically down, cost of doing business has increased, devaluation, inflation, new tax regimes all have hit the buying power of the consumer resulting into the current crises we are in. He stated that if the current circumstances remain, a lot of small and medium enterprises will be shutting down or downsizing. In these times the only survival is exports, although the order that MCE is exporting is small but it’s a start of series of orders that will be exported.
