KEEPING pace with technological advancement, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Tuesday introduced an innovative application enabling people to use their smart phones for biometric verification.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, who launched NADRA’s Pak-ID mobile application, described it as a revolutionary step in providing convenience to citizens, especially Overseas Pakistanis.

With the passage of time, NADRA is assuming greater significance in the day-to-day life of the citizens and it is satisfying that its leadership is taking new and visionary steps to facilitate people.

There were times when people seeking to get national identity cards used to spend several days to complete the necessary formalities but digitization provided major relief to them.

Now, most of the services of NADRA are digitally accessible and the latest example is printing of Covid-19 Vaccination Certificates by individual citizens while sitting at homes.

The introduction of Pak-ID App is, indeed, yet another milestone in the history of NADRA as it will help capture biometrics and scan documents digitally by using the camera of smart phones.

By using the digital app on smart phones, all citizens including expatriates will be able to digitally capture fingerprints, photographs and documents.

This is a leap forward putting an end to conventional methods of using specialized equipment or physical paper for processing ID documents in NADRA.

The utility of the App can be judged from the remarks of Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik, who said it would help in creating trust in a variety of transactions between people, identity providers and the public and private sector.

While lauding digital initiatives of the organization, we would urge its leadership to take measures to bring down the cost of different services as some of them are considered to be on the higher side.
