In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Srinagar-Gulmarg Road after Magam residents blocked the road to protest against the scarcity of potable water.

The protesters, including women, said that the authorities do not take their grievance seriously. The protesters blocked the road, forcing commuters to halt their vehicles for hours.

The protesters told media that Kolekar Chinar Colony in the area is facing acute water shortage for the last 10 years.

They said crores of rupees have been allocated for laying a water supply scheme for the area, but only God knows where the money has gone.

“We have been deprived of drinking water for last 10 years and our children are crying for want of water.

We consulted authorities but of no use. We were forced to come on the road to protest,” the protesters said.

Police and officials concerned rushed to spot and assured the protesters that their grievance will be addressed.—KMS
