Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has said that closing down of industries is tantamount to cutting the economic lifeline of the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at the Governor House. Members of Sindh Assembly Khurram Sher Zaman and Shehzad Qureshi were also present on the occasion.
The governor said that after the notification of the Sindh government last night, it was necessary to bring out the real facts.
He said that Pakistan’s policy to stay safe from corona virus has been recognized by the whole world. Pakistan is a country with a population of 220 million.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, NOOC and other institutions have played a major role in this successful policy because the Prime Minister’s vision is that Pakistan cannot afford any lockdown as the majority of our country is poor and middle class.
He said that the decision of the provincial government was also affecting the industries which had also vaccinated their workers but instead of implementing SOPs, the provincial government imposed a lockdown like curfew. He said that the federation is ready to help the Sindh government.
The federation will provide assistance and cooperation in this regard. Providing He said that he called the Chief Minister of Sindh and asked him to consider at least the industries which have been vaccinated. We should first fulfill our responsibility and then take another step.
Moreover, the Governor inaugurated monsoon tree plantation drive at Governor’s House as a part of the “Clean Green Pakistan Initiative” under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami programme to Promote Environmental Sustainability and Biodiversity. The event was held in collaboration with Dawat-e-Islami Pakistan.
Imran Ismail said planting trees made the environment cleaner and also reduced air pollution.
He stressed that the tree plantation is joint responsibility of all to create a healthy environment for the coming generations.
“Only with healthy ecosystems we can enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity”, he observed.
He said that the tree plantation program was also generating thousands of new employment opportunities.
He observed that under the government’s flagship 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project, more than 85,000 people have already found green jobs, during last year, including in guarding forests, eco-tourism and planting saplings, at the time when pandemic lockdowns left many daily wage earners without work.
“The Federal Government is targeting to create 200,000 new green jobs by the end of year 2021 under its ecological protection and restoration projects”, he added.
