The Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh was held here on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by Naveed Akbar, Director General (CCT)/Waseela-e-Taleem, BISP and Ahmed BukshNarejo, Sindh Secretary, Education &Lieteracy Department.
FouziaBasharatSamo ,the DG BISP Sindh and Dr. Fouzia Khan, Chief Advisor, Education Department were also present during the ceremony.
The purpose of MOU is to forge a partnership between BISP and Education department, Sindh to jointly implement a co-responsibility cash transfer (CCT) under Waseela-e-Taleemprogramme in Sindh province for the promotion of secondary education of children of BISP beneficiaries.
BISP beneficaries’ children at primary and High School already avail stipend with the partnership of Sindhgovernment since 2012.
DG CCT Naveed Akbar briefed that the federal government has decided to add Higher Secondary 11th and 12th standard students in the Waseela-e-Taleemprogramme an educational conditional cash transfer project.
Under the project, the federal government providing cash grants to children from the poorest families on the attainment of 70 per cent attendance in school.
Moreover, the digitization of the project is aimed at enhancing Primary & Secondary school enrollments and minimizing dropouts.
Recently, the Federal Government has increased the Quarterly stipend amount of Rs.2000 for girls and Rs.1500 for boys enrolled in education under the age bracket of 4 years to 12 years , Rs.3000 for girls and Rs.2500 for boys enrolled in High School education from class 6th to 10th under the age bracket of 8 years to 18 years and Rs.4000 for girls and Rs.3500 for boys enrolled in Secondary School Education from Class 11th and 12th under the age bracket 13 to 22 years.
More than 700,000 students would get the benefit and the government has planned to allocate Rs5 billion worth of funds for the project in the next fiscal year under this programme.
