Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Raja Basharat directed the Population Welfare Department to fix the criteria for extension in the service contract of 3,411 employees of Family Welfare Project (FWP).
He was presiding over a meeting of a special committee set up by the Chief Minister in this regard at Civil Secretariat here.
The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister for Population Hashim Dogat and officials of relevant departments.
In a briefing, it was told that a project was launched for 600 family welfare centres across the province for which more than 3,400 employees were still working on contract and were being paid under the annual development program (ADP).
The briefing further informed:
“the project is now over, but the decision is yet to be made whether to lay off 3,411 employees or extend their contracts.
The employees of Family Welfare Centres have been awarded six months contract each time in the past and their current contract will expire in December 2021.
Now the Chief Minister has directed the committee to work out a plan of action for further extension in the contracts of these employees.”
Raja Basharat directed the officers of the department to set the terms and conditions for extending the employees’ contract and send it to the committee so that the matter can be settled before December.
He said that the final decision regarding extension of employees’ contract would be taken after the approval of the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, as many as 305501 corona patients are recovered in the public sector hospitals being run under the control of Specialized and Primary & Secondary Healthcare departments, while 106 patients are recovered during the last 24 hours.
Barrister Nabeel Ahmed Awan, Secretary Specialized Healthcare Punjab said this while chairing a high-level meeting here today.
He said that in view Corona pandemic, the department has made sufficient arrangements that out of 6674 beds reserved in all govt.
hospitals for corona patients, 6150 beds were lying unoccupied. Likewise, 1282 beds reserved in govt.
hospitals of Lahore and 1117 beds were vacant so far. The Secretary SHC&MED said that the department had arranged 3084 beds in Isolation wards of all govt. hospitals in the province, out of which, 2949 beds were vacant.
However, 331 beds for corona patients are reserved in isolation wards set up in govt. hospitals of Lahore and 314 beds are unoccupied.
In addition, 2918 beds are also reserved in HDU for patients suffering from Covid-19 in all the hospitals of government and 2625 beds are vacant while, in hospitals of Lahore, 714 beds reserved in HDU and 611 beds are unoccupied, Nabeel Awan he added.
