With the inauguration of a special school, regular classes for the transgender community started in Multan, said Dr Ehtisham Anwar, Secretary South Punjab Education.
He said that initially, Government Girls Complex, Hansu School, Gulgasht has completed the registration of 18 transgender students for different classes and their classes have been formally started.
He informed that the students are also being imparted vocational training, including clothing designing, sewing, cooking, beauty parlour and hairdressing skills so that they can receive formal education as well as become skilled and financially prosperous.
“Following success of the pilot project in Multan, educational classes for transgender people will also be started in Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan as well,” the secretary said.
Meanwhile, an international conference was organized at MNS University of Agriculture Multan titled: ” Food Security n Sustainable Agriculture in Pakistan: Outcome n Prospects.”
Centre for Global and Strategic Studies collaborated with the MNS University for holding the conference.
Conference was presided by MNS University of Agriculture VC Prof Dr Asif Ali while Dr Steffen Kudella ‘ resident spokesman Hanns Seidel Foundation was the chief guest at the conference.
IG (r) Ibne Hussain and Prof Dr Muhammad Sajjad, VC Cholistan Veterinary and Animal Sciences University were among the other dignitaries who attended the conference.
The objective of the conference was to develop appropriate policy to address food security issues in Pakistan.
Conference was held in two sessions. The first session addressed the food security n modern technology perspective issues while in second session participants devise policy recommendations for food security in Pakistan.
