Members of Udhampur Journalists Association observed black day and held a silent march to register protest against the insensitive attitude of the authorities towards media persons.
To register their protest against authorities, a large number of media persons from print and electronic media holding placards took out a silent march from Deputy Commissioner’s Office Udhampur which culminated at Gole Market near Fountain Chowk after passing through various markets.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist, Pardeep Bakshi , Ramesh Gupta and Amit Mahi condemned the insensitive attitude of the authorities and said different tactics were being used to coerce journalists, adding that it was unfortunate on the part of authorities for denying media to perform its role smoothly.
They said that media which is fourth pillar of democracy has always helped and worked as bridge between people and authorities in highlighting problems of masses and making aware people about achievements and schemes of government but the recent denial of administration to cover Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh’s visit to Devika ghat has widened gap between media and authorities.—KMS
