Strong gusty windstorm, followed by rain, lashed the provincial metropolis Monday evening, bringing in respite to the scorching-heat stricken citizens.
The scorching sun forced the citizens to stay indoor since morning and in the afternoon, dark clouds started covering the sky and strong winds started blowing.
The windstorm lashed the City, blowing down on trees, billboards, dilapidated walls and other items.
The windstorm also forced suspension of electricity to citizens. According to Lesco officials, more than 200 feeders tripped in the provincial metropolis due to strong wind and rain.
Though the winds and rain brought some relief to citizens, it also caused miseries for residents of various areas. The rain turned weather pleasant and people heaved sigh of relief.
The mercury dropped in the city after strong winds and the temperature was recorded at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius due to winds.
The weather turned pleasant in different parts of Lahore in the evening due to which the intensity of heat decreased.
The Meteorological Department predicted that the weather in Lahore will be more pleasant in the next few days.
The officials cautioned that winds will blow at a speed of 35 to 40 km per hour due to which sign boards and trees could fall and citizens should avoid unnecessary travel.
The rain was recorded in almost entire City including Civil Secretariat, Anarkali, Mall Road, Upper Mall, Lower Mall, Badami Bagh, Circular Road, Ravi Road, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Samanabad, Jail Road, Mozang, Lawrence Road, Dharampura, Railway Station and other areas while Cantt, Paragon City, Tajpura and Mughalpura also experienced strong winds and rain.
The windstorm and rain also lashed neighbouring districts including Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur Sialkot and others where power supply was severely affected besides causing damages to property and life.
