PRESIDENT Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi have been persistent in their campaigns to promote the rights of Differently Abled Persons (DAPs) as well as raise awareness about breast cancer.
They are often seen engaging with different strata of society to bring improvement in the life of DAPs and fight the taboos associated with the breast cancer.
They indeed are playing a commendable role in this regard which must be appreciated and supported by all.
Chairing a meeting on Wednesday, President Arif Alvi asked the CDA to increase the number of ramps at public places and construct toilets to facilitate physically challenged people.
There is no denying that the disabled persons are equally important and valuable part of the society and their rights must be ensured in all spheres of life with special emphasis on accessibility and education.
As stated by President Alvi, making public places accessible to them is important so that they do not face any problems during their visit to such places.
It is not only the state but the collective responsibility of the whole society to take care of people with special needs.
For instance, if the government has set aside two percent quota for them in public sector jobs, responsibility also rests with the private sector to play its part and employ the DAPs in their respective fields according to their skills.
It is also important that special emphasis is given to the vocational and technical education of the disabled persons so that they could earn livelihood in a dignified manner.
Enrolling them at mainstream education institutions is important so that they do not feel isolated in the society.
We need to make them realize that they are second to none and they could play their role in national development if given opportunities.
We are confident that both President Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi will continue their efforts for the social and economic integration of the DAPs in the society.
The fact of matter is that the PTI is fortunate to have a President who has a deep understanding of issues and government must take inputs from him to bring improvement in different sectors.
