In a simple but mesmerising ceremony at Gujrat, finally “Ram Pyari” museum was opened on Monday. Advisor to Chief Minister on Tourism and Archaeology Asif Mehmood inaugurated Ram Pyari Museum.
He was received at Gujrat by Secretary Tourism and Archaeology Department (TAD) Ehsan Bhutta, Director General Archaeology Ilyas Gill, Deputy Commissioner Saif Jappa and DPO Umer Salamat.
After ribbon cutting, he was briefed about artefacts in 4 galleries newly established by Archaeology Directorate in this historic building, erected in 1918.
These galleries include prehistory and Indus valley civilisation, Ghandhara Civilization, Ethnological gallery and miscellaneous gallery with coins, weaponry, jewellery and other masterpieces.
Deputy Director Archaeology Hassan Iqbal briefed about relevant history of heritage items displayed at museum.
Asif Mehmood, on this occasion said that deputy commissioner and Gujrat Chamber of commerce and Industry extended tremendous support for restoration of Ram Pyari building.
Interesting and catchy element of Gujrat museum is picture gallery decorated with photographs of three Nishane Haider holders of Pakistan Army, Maj. Aziz Bhatti, Maj. Shabeer Sharif and Maj.
Muhammad Akram besides great folk singer Shokat Ali, poet and writer professor Shareef Kunjhahi, Justice R Ilayas and other prominent figures born at Gujrat.
All participants, particularly the Adviser liked it very much as it is very informative for young generation.
Secretary TAD told that third component of Gujrat Gallery was decorated by curator Ms Shahbano and mr.
Hassan which depicted the local culture items like epic of Sohni Mahiwaal, mason doing his work, labourers working, village home, utensils, old locks donated by Mr Farooq.
This beautiful Culture was so appealing that participants spent about 30 minutes in this cultural gallery and showed great interest in all items depicting local Culture.
After visit the short briefing was held. DG Archaeology welcomed Asif Mehmood, the Adviser and all guests.
Deputy Commissioner Gujrat thanked Punjab Govt for presenting such a wonderful gift to people of Gujrat. President Chamber thanked Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Adviser and promised that district administration will continue offering its full cooperation in future.
Secretary TAD thanked all guests and appreciated Archaeology Directorate team particularly Mr Hassan, Curator Shah Bano, Atique, Director Maqsood Malik and DG Archaeology.
