Maldives President Muizzu To Visit Pakistan After 11 Years

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu will visit Pakistan from October 20 to 22 for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Foreign Office announced on Sunday.

He will be accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation comprising cabinet members and senior government officials.

During the visit, the Maldivian president will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, who will host a state banquet in his honour. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at both restricted and delegation levels.

According to the Foreign Office, the two countries will review bilateral relations and discuss ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, education, tourism, agriculture, defence, maritime security, climate change and people-to-people exchanges. Regional and international issues of mutual interest will also feature in their discussions.

A Pakistan-Maldives Business Forum will be organised to bring together business communities from both countries and identify fresh opportunities for trade and investment.

The Foreign Office said the visit is also expected to result in the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation across various sectors.

Muizzu’s visit marks the first time a Maldivian president has travelled to Pakistan in 11 years. It also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1966.

Pakistan and the Maldives maintain friendly relations based on shared religious ties, mutual respect and longstanding goodwill, while cooperating at regional and international forums.

The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral ties and advance cooperation in areas of shared interest.
