Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Tourism and Archaeology Asif Mahmood on Sunday said that nature has blessed Punjab with rich historic heritage and Archaeology department is making strenuous efforts to preserve historic sites of the province.
In his message on World Heritage Day, the advisor said that it is the first time that a government is paying special attention on the tourism of heritage sites.
He further stated that restoration work of historical sites of Punjab especially in Lahore is being
carried out by the Archaeological Directorate.
Two new museums have been established. Klarkahar Museum has been opened for the public while the Ram Piyari Museum in Gujarat will be inaugurated (today) on 19 April.
Historical artifacts will be placed in both the museums. Asif Mehmood further disclosed that in order to promote tourism night lighting project is being completed at historic places.
In his message, Secretary Tourism and Archeology Ehsan Bhutta said that the inauguration of Ram Piyari Museum Gujarat on World Heritage Day is a proof that the Punjab Government has taken concrete steps to restore heritage sites in phase wise
programme as per vision of Chief Minister.
Picture galleries has been set up at Shalamar Bagh, Jahangir tomb and tourist information centers have also been opened.
Ehsan Bhatta said that roads leading to historical places are being repaired under P-Tag project besides installing guidance boards. The Department of Tourist Services has been made functional, he added.
