The Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Dr Jeremy Milsom called on the Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail here at Governor’s House on Tuesday.
He remained there for sometime and exchanged views on matters of mutual interests and cooperation.
They also discussed the UNODC’s expanded programme of support and UNODC’s priority thematic areas as per strategy 2021-25, including World Drug Problem, Organised Crimes, Corruption & Economic Crisis, Terrorism and Criminal Justice System.
The Governor was also briefed about UNODC’s overall assistance to the Province of Sindh, which included prioritising COVID-19 related support.
“UNODC has been providing technical assistance to Government of Sindh to strengthen capacity of Law Enforcement and criminal justice system to overcome the challenges posed by drugs, crime and terrorism.
With the pandemic outbreak, some of the planned activities were reprogrammed in consultation with provincial and federal stakeholders to make COVID-19 related support possible”, the Country Representative UNODC added.
Imran Ismail said: “The outbreak of COVID-19 has had unprecedented health, social and economic impacts on all countries.
To address these COVID-19 related concerns, Pakistan is working on a comprehensive policy on COVID-19 responses along with its ongoing efforts on Strengthening Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice system and Public Health”.
Dr Milsom expressed his appreciation of Pakistan’s endeavours and success against organized crime and terrorism.
He also realised the Pakistan’s COVID-19 strategy to check spread of disease in the country.
