Aimed at educating the womenfolk regarding breast cancer, PAF Hospital arranged an awareness walk at PAF Complex, Islamabad today. First lady Begum Samina Alvi, also participated in this walk. On her arrival, Begum Tazeen Mujahid, President Pakistan Air Force Women Association received the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Begum Samina Alvi said that the lack of awareness about breast cancer in the country is a serious issue, causing loss of precious lives in womenfolk. She added that we should not consider it a taboo to discuss this disease and arranging such events significantly help in creating much needed awareness to fight this major cause of fatalities among the women population. Highlighting the role of media in this campaign, the First Lady further said that television, radio and social media should play a vital role in spreading basic information to women through public service messages and special programmes.
She added that only through effective use of media, misconceptions in general public regarding this curable disease can be rectified and wiped out.
She also commended PAF Hospital, Islamabad administration for successful conduct of this event and acknowledged its vibrant role in giving awareness regarding this disease and its preventive measures.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Begum Tazeen Mujahid highlighted the objectives of this significant activity. Dr. Shamsa Rizwan delivered a lecture in which she emphasized that timely diagnosis could help in eradicating this curable disease. Later on, a breast cancer surviving patient also shared her experience with the participants. The purpose of the walk was to highlight the importance of regular screening of breast cancer, early diagnosis and timely treatment.
A large number of young girls, women, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, teachers and students joined the walk. The enthusiastic individuals marched carrying placards and posters encouraging breast cancer patients to fight against this disease with full determination.
